Electronic train tickets can be purchased only on the official website of the State Railway Administration of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsia), Ukrzaliznytsia Deputy Director General Pavlo Chekalov has said.
“Electronic travel documents can currently be purchased only on the official website of Ukrzaliznytsia. No agents sell such electronic travel documents on any websites. Our tickets have a QR code, which the conductor reads with a special scanner and gets all data required for boarding: the passenger’s surname and name, train number, seat, etc,” he said.
Chekalov noted that rail tickets issued through the PrivatBank system are not full travel documents and must be exchanged in the railway ticket desk. The QR code specified in them contains information about the order, not the passenger.
“PrivatBank developed its own program, and they also invented a QR code when booking tickets. But this is not the QR code, which our electronic travel document has,” he said.
As reported, from July 23, 2013 the tickets issued through the official website of Ukrzaliznytsia on the Internet and printed by passengers themselves have the status of accounting documents. The “electronic ticket” is currently valid in all Intercity+ trains and six trains running between Ukrainian regions. Ukrzaliznytsia plans to introduce the system in all its trains by the end of 2013.
