Ukraine, England play out goalless draw in World Cup qualifier

Ukraine’s national football team has failed to earn a fifth consecutive victory under the management of Mykhailo Fomenko in the qualifying tournament of the 2014 World Cup.

Ukraine played out a goalless draw with England at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The game was handled by Portuguese referee Pedro Proenca, who officiated at the Euro 2012 final at this stadium.

In another Group H match, San Marino lost to Poland 1-5 in Serravalle.

Standings after eight rounds: England -16 points, Ukraine – 15, Montenegro – 15, Poland – 13, Moldova – 5, San Marino – 0.

Ukraine will play two more matches – against Poland in Kyiv on October 11 and against San Marino in Serravalle on October 15.

The group winners will automatically reach the final stage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Runners-up will continue their struggle in the play-offs.
