“Contemporary by definition, short films have been underestimated by the public; however their wide recognition is steadily growing. We have gathered 25 best short footages of French cinematography of all times to show particularly for Ukrainian audience. Almost any kind of films will be available to guests and residents of Kyiv, starting from old silent comedies and ending with novel profound documentaries. For many short movies this will be the only time to be exposed to Ukrainian viewers.” – commented the organizers.
The event is organized by the Embassy of France in Ukraine and the French Institute in Kyiv.
Earlier, Kyiv hosted Future Shorts Film Festival, which presented seven art-house movies from Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Norway and the United States. Unlike Future Shorts, French film festival will be focused solely on cinematography of one country with a greater emphasis, however, on the scope of its genres, and development throughout the 20th – 21st centuries.
Since 1931, French directors produced more than 13,000 movies, according to the official Internet Movie Database statistics. Annually more than 2,500 short films are produced only in France.
