Ukrainian schoolchildren prefer to learn English and German

2% of schoolchildren of the 5th grade chose to learn German as the second foreign language, 23% – Russian, education and science minister of Ukraine Dmytro Tabachnyk told at the press conference.

Tabachnyk noted that starting from this academic year, fifth grade students begin studies according to the new standards and programs.

So, they will study two foreign languages and computer science. The minister said that according to current data, English as the second foreign language to study was selected by 7.5% of pupils, German – 52%, Russian – little more than 23%, French – 14%, Polish – 1.6%, and Spanish – 1 2%.

At the same time, 91.5% of the children will learn English as the first foreign language.
